The palais de Justice (courthouse)

The palais de Justice, or courthouse, was designed by Danish-German architect Skjold Neckelmann and completed in 1897, replacing the former courthouse in rue de la Nuée-Bleue. The neo-Greek architecture, with its timeless and universal symbolism, stands for the independence of justice with regard to public authorities. The façade features ionic columns, surmounted by a triangular pediment decorated with an allegory of Justice. The interior decoration is influenced by ancient Egyptian art. The courthouse underwent significant refurbishment between 2012 and 2017, to bring it into line with the needs of modern justice1
